hw 9b

Read Lesson 9b. Then complete this homework. Work to understand all problems even though all problems may not be assigned.

1. What advantages does Frame Relay have over HDLC and LAP-B?

2. What disadvantages does Frame Relay have?

3. What is a DLCI and why is it used?

4. Define the following terms:

    a. Bc

    b. Be

    c. CIR

    d. DE bit

    e. FECN bit

    f. BECN bit

5. Frame Relay

    a. What is the overhead percentage for a Frame Relay frame if it has a 500 octet data field and the default size for the address field?

    b. What is the throughput?

    c. If this runs on a T1 line, what is the users throughput data rate?

6. An end station sends 135,200 bits into a Frame Relay network in 200 milliseconds.  The CIR is 400,000 bits per second and the maximum transmission rate is 1.544 Mbps.

    a. Has the user exceeded the maximum transmission rate? (show your work, then answer yes or no)

    b. If every frame is exactly 50 octets long, how many of these frames will have the DE bit set to 1?

7. What is DLCI 0 used for?

8. Frames:

    a. Sketch a two octet address field from a LAP-F frame.

    b. Label the fields.

    c. What are the initial values of the following fields (0 or 1)?

      FECN =
      BECN =
      DE =
      Row two EA =

9. What bit sequence is contained in the flag field of the LAP-F frame?

10. Does a LAP-F frame use bit stuffing?
